Challenges -
Converting a disused warehouse into a vibrant modern city centre hotel is a feat in itself, add to that the location of other businesses and located next to a live train station and a major rail line into Birmingham created additional challenges. The site had contained asbestos and undertook a major demolition programme. The proximity to neighbouring buildings made the risk of fire and spread of fire needed to be planned and managed.
Solution -
Working with Network Rail, Safety Advisors developed the construction phase plan to ensure the requirements of the CDM Regulations and those of Network Rail were met. Site monitoring reports were issued to Network Rail along with progress reports issued to local residents.
Results -
No complaints from local residents and businesses. No complaints from the HSE or Fire and Rescue Services.
