Challenges -
As the tallest building in Europe The Shard dominates the London skyline and is a completely unique building in terms of location, the varied uses of the building and the fire strategy. With such a unique building any fire risk arrangements needs to consider the buildings overall fire strategy.
Foresight Group required a bespoke fire management plan that was easy to manage and meet compliance with the building operators requirements along with those of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Solution -
Safety Advisors have been involved with fire management in the building for many years and are very knowledgeable in both the fire strategy for the building and the City of London Fire and Rescue’s requirements for high rise buildings.
We put together the original fire risk assessment for the building and so were able to use that knowledge to undertake the fire risk assessment for Foresight. We undertake ongoing reviews of the fire risk assessment and the arrangements in place to ensure they remain suitable for this very prestigious client.

We were also involved in the fire management during the construction phase of the office and so worked closely with the PC to ensure the fire strategy for the building was maintained.

Results -
Compliance with the insurance industry fire prevention requirements. No complaints from the building management team. No false fire alarms. Involved in other Foresight offices.

Skills -
Fire requirements of the HSE and Insurers
Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
Construction Health and Safety
Communication between all stakeholders
Significant knowledge of the buildings fire arrangements
