Challenges -
Converting a 1960's office block to a 99 bedroom Travelodge with a 60 cover bar café. The project is on the main ring road and was logistically challenging when installing the bathroom pods.
The project involved a significant strip out as part of this 38week project. During these activities the fire protection and prevention measures had to be maintained. Due to its location the site attracted significant interest from the local authority and statutory bodies including the HSE.
Solution -
Safety Advisors were involved in the fire planning as part of their CDM co-ordination role and proposed the final fire strategy for the building. On-going involvement in the form of site inspections ensured any GAPS were identified and resolved quickly ensuring the site protected those directly involved in the project and the public etc.
Results -
Compliance with the insurance industry fire prevention requirements. No RIDDOR reportable incidents.
Skills -
Fire requirements of the HSE and Insurers
Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
Construction Health and Safety
Communication between all stakeholders
